Blade Runner

My favorite scene of Blade Runner: The Final Cut is the Tears in the Rain Scene, where Roy Batty tells Deckard how all of his experiences will disappear once he is gone. I love this scene because of what it implies. His descriptions of “Attack Ships on Fire, off the shoulder of orion”, and locations like the “Tannhauser Gate” give off the idea of a grand space opera. It makes the viewer imagine a completely different world than the one they are currently watching which consists of a gritty cyberpunk Los Angeles.

When Batty talks about his memories, it makes the viewer realize that what they are watching, is simply one tiny story in a giant universe. The best movies are the ones that make you feel like after the film is over, the story goes on. This accomplishes that feeling, by making the viewer realize that there is an entire universe out there, past the rain soaked streets of Los Angeles. We may not get to see it, but we can imagine it.

Thank you.
